Big Day for Garland
Last night at the City Council Meeting, the Garland City Council confirmed Assistant Chief Jeff Bryan to be the next chief of police.
“It is with great honor tonight that I recommend the approval of Jeff Bryan as our next Chief of Police,” City Manager Bryan Bradford said. “His selection was made after considerable input from the community as well as several several interview panels. They unanimously felt that he was the best candidate to take us forward in our police department.”
According to the city’s press release: Assistant Chief Bryan has served with the Garland Police Department 22 years (with a total of 24 years in law enforcement), including 13 years in a leadership role. He has held numerous ranks including lieutenant, captain and, most recently, assistant chief. Bryan holds a Bachelor of Science degree in political science (with a minor in economics) from Texas A&M University and a Master of Public Affairs degree from the University of Texas at Dallas. He also has a Master Peace Officer Certification from Texas Commission on Law Enforcement (TCOLE). Additional professional development and training include FBI National Academy (FBINA) and Senior Management Institute for Police (SMIP).
“I have been part of this organization for the past 22 years and part of this family for 22 years,” Chief Bryan said. “This for me personally is incredibly humbling. For me this is home. I’ve got some really big shoes to fill, but I’m looking forward to the challange. I am looking forward to building on the relationships that Mitch has spent the last 16 years building.”
Big Day for Me
Just before the council meeting, I was informed that my competitor in the District 7 election had been disqualified due to an incomplete ballot petition. I am honored that I will be able to serve the citizens of Garland and District 7 in my new role as Councilman for District 7.
I am looking forward to meeting many of the citizens I will represent and getting to know what the important issues are for you. Please contact me at dylan@hedrickforgarland or give me a call at 713-677-4999.
At the end of each blog post, I will add a musical selection. Let’s keep this positive and fun.
