Yesterday was culmination of months of work as the voters of Garland gave a clear mandate to city leaders – Budget, Design, Build!
All eight bond propositions passed by a 10% or greater margin ensuring that funding for new fire stations, a library, an animal shelter, park facilities, street improvements, drainage upgrades, municipal buildings, and economic development will all be provided for in the future.
It was personally fulfilling as I have been involved from the beginning of the process as a member and chair of the Citizen’s Bond Study Committee. Now I get to see those projects move from the planning phase to production.
Our job as the council is to deliver these projects as soon as possible. While the budgeting and design process may take over a year, expect to see some dirt moving within the next 18-24 months.
Mayor-elect Scott LeMay’s posted on Facebook that his motto going forward is the 3Ps – Prioritize, Plan, Produce. I chose “Budget, Design, Build.” No matter our mantra, expect to see some big changes in Garland soon.
