As the weather gets warmer and grilling season is upon us, I head down to David’s Meat Market located at 4010 N. Jupiter to fill my barbecue pit. David’s Meat Market specializes in premium cuts of pork and beef.
Owner Devon McDougall bought the store from his grandfather David Harris almost four years ago, and the 37 year old business hasn’t missed a step. In fact, McDougall grew up in the butcher shop with his high chair strapped to the butcher block at age two. A few years later, he was helping place pricing labels on packages, and he was handed his first set of butcher knives at age 12. McDougall is surrounded by coworkers who are family and friends he grew up with in the shop. Now the tradition of quality and customer service continues with his generation.
“We have over four decades of butcher experience between us,” McDougall said. “We can’t compete with the big box stores on price and we don’t want to. We are unapologec about quality.”
Along with a variety of steaks and chops, McDougall says his best sellers are many of the 17 kinds of sausage made on site, including chorizo, bratwurst, and green apple cider.
Driving by on Jupiter Road, you may also notice the seasonal paintings which adorn the windows of the shop.
“We have a gentleman who comes in every quarter and paints a new scene for the three major holidays for that period,” McDougall said. “It draws attention to the place, and I’ve seen people stop and take their pictures in front it. It certainly is a good advertiser.”
Next me you plan a barbecue, be sure to stop by David’s Meat Market and be sure to tell them you enjoy supporting local Garland businesses.
After each blog post, I will post a musical selection. Let’s keep this fun.
